Research Activities
• Biological production of biomaterials (polyhydroxyalkanoates; PHAs) and biochemicals (xylitol and xylonic acid) from the carbohydrate fraction of lignocellulosic and macroalgal biomass.
• Operation of bench–scale bioreactors in batch, fed-batch and in continuous mode.
• Physicochemical and enzymatic hydrolysis of the carbohydrate fraction in lignocellulosic and macroalgal biomass to monosaccharides.
• Cascade biorefinery of macroalgal biomass towards the valorization of the different fractions.
• Extraction methods using green solvents: design and optimization.
